Common Questions
1. What is VoIP? It is a voice calling technology that is well over a decade old that allows you to communicate over the phone just like a traditional land-line.
2. What Does it Stand For? Voice over Internet Protocol but newer terms have since been adapted including the terms Internet phone service, broadband phone service, and digital voice service.
3. Do I Need Internet? Yes, you will need a high speed Internet connection. Dial-up is not suitable for VoIP. DSL, Cable, and some Satellite Internet services work. Check with your ISP before ordering services to make sure you have adequate bandwidth.
4. Do I Get 911? In most cases the answer is yes but there are still some counties within the United States that do not have E911 for VoIP. Ask the provider before ordering their services if you have doubts. Typically within the online ordering process you will be notified of any issues with most providers.
5. Is Voice Quality Good? All in all, yes. Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and millions of consumers Nationwide use VoIP.
6. I don’t See Vonage. No problem. We have comparable services right here, and in many cases far cheaper. Don’t let a televised brand name fool you into thinking there are no other alternatives.
7. Do I Need Equipment? Yes. Many VoIP phone service providers include free routers for your service.
8. Do I Need a Special Phone? No. The router provided to you is also an adapter that allows you to plug in your phone line directly in and start making phone calls.
9. Can I Keep My Current Number? Yes. Most providers offer you the opportunity to move your phone number over to the service. The service usually isn’t free, but isn’t very expensive either.
