This technology is low on maintenance expenses but can prove time consuming when scaling up to larger bandwidth capacities which has caused a good debate on whether Gigabit Ethernet options may be more viable, but one thing remains indisputable and that is the redundancy of the architecture due to it’s path layers and it’s “SONET ring” topology.
